A bus tour, a visit to the Empire State Building and the musical Chicago at the Ambassador theater were planned for this day.
A morning stroll. Battery Park
It’s almost become a tradition to take a walk in the morning before the main events, plus it was early and I needed to check out where the dock was for the ferry I’d be taking in a couple days.
Unfortunately, there was no access to the shore – there were construction works on part of the territory, part of the shore was blocked for ferries.
A bus tour. Downtown Loop
I purchased two tickets from this company – one for this day, one scheduled for the next. The buses run at 15-20 minute intervals throughout the city, and you could get off at any stop, walk around the neighborhood, and then hop on another one, since the ticket is valid for the day. However, I had already walked in some of the places where the bus passed, and my feet still remembered the past days’ adventures, so when such thoughts appeared in my head, they immediately delivered their note verbale.
I like this kind of street shots with perspective – rows of houses going off into the distance, so I took a lot of them.
Empire State Building
It was cloudy this day, but I think one can find their own sense of beauty at such a height, regardless of the weather. Plus it felt like the clouds were really overhanging.
The only disadvantage in my opinion in this weather is the wind, which blows from everywhere, and there is no way to turn away and hide from it.
The spire here was intended for a special purpose – as a docking station for airships – and not as a decorative element as in the case of the Chrysler building, which in addition serves as the upper height marker of the building.
While there, I was told that today was one of those days when you could come back with the same ticket, and you could go up to the upper floors to catch the New York night. I would not be able to catch the sunset anyway due to the last event, however I was hoping to get there afterward. Most likely I misunderstood the skyscraper staff, because coming later after the musical everything was already closed and there wasn’t even any sign of activity there.
I wanted to visit Chrysler Building and found this:
Though there are no official tours run by the building, the spectacular Art Deco lobby should not be missed.
It’s free to enter the Chrysler Building and no tickets are required.
Aaaand I missed it… 😐 Next time then.
May be once upon a time there will be an observation deck again.
Rockefeller Center
Having seen enough of the beauty of the big city from such a height, I first went to my room for a little rest, and then decided to take a walk not far from the Ambassador in order to be on time for the start.
This place turned out to be the Rockfeller Center. Like all decent famous places, it was also possible to go up to the building by purchasing a ticket, but I already had enough activities to do, so I decided that this would definitely be for next time.
At first I didn’t understand what these colors were and why there was such a sudden solidarity to France, since its flag is projected on the building, and besides I saw such a composition many places along the way, but then I remembered this picture and understood everything. It was obvious…
Chicago the Musical
This was my first time attending an event of this nature at all, and I liked it. It was quite unusual and impressive for me. For me, theater performances have always represented something so pompous and serious, some kind of drama. Maybe that’s why I wasn’t drawn to it, and it was nice to see that theater can be as different as cinema.
Alyssa Milano (the one from Charmed) portrayed Roxie Hart and even though it was my first time at the musical, my personal opinion is that she didn’t live up to the role. Sorry, but nope… The others were much better in comparison. Overall, the musical turned out great.
